The Journey of Your Yard Waste

At Miller Compost, we specialize in turning leaves and yard waste into valuable products that enhance soil health and promote sustainability. By receiving organic material, we create premium compost, mulch, topdressings, and soil amendments that help support plant growth and a healthier environment.

What makes our approach stand out? Let’s take a closer look at the process behind how we transform raw materials into high-quality soil products.

Step 1: Collecting and Preparing

The journey begins with the collection of leaf and yard waste from residential, commercial, and industrial sources. Maintaining the purity of our organic feedstock is key to producing high-quality compost, mulch, topdressings, and soil amendments. That’s why we focus on efficient sorting and contaminant removal before processing begins.

“Miller Compost prides itself in manufacturing one of the highest quality composts in the market. This achievement is a result of our ability to keep the feedstocks clean with the use of quality industry-specific equipment and our professional and experienced staff.” Kyle Howes, General Manager, Miller Compost.

Step 2: Aerobic Digestion – The Science of Composting

Once the organic waste is prepped, it enters the aerobic digestion stage. This natural process relies on microorganisms to break down organic matter, generating heat that eliminates pathogens and weed seeds.

Temperature monitoring is very important for managing the compost process. By measuring temperatures regularly, you can tell how fast material is composting and whether there are hot or cold spots in the pile. When temperatures move outside the optimal range, turning the compost helps bring the pile back into balance. This process ensures that the composting occurs efficiently, producing high-quality compost in the shortest possible time.

Step 3: Screening and Refining for Quality

As the compost matures, it undergoes screening to remove any remaining large particles. What’s left is a nutrient-rich, dark, and crumbly compost that is perfect for use in gardens, farms, and landscaping projects. Our strict quality control process ensures that only the best compost makes it to market.

Step 4: Producing Premium Soil Products

Miller Compost doesn’t stop at compost. We also manufacture mulch, topdressings, and soil amendments that improve soil health, enhance water retention, and provide essential nutrients for plant growth. Shop our premium products here

Why Compost Matters: The Power of Organic Matter

Adding compost to soil does more than just provide nutrients. It significantly improves soil organic matter, which plays a key role in water retention. A 50-acre farm that increases its soil organic matter from 1% to 3% can hold millions of gallons of water after each rainfall. That means healthier crops, reduced soil erosion, and better resilience against droughts. By choosing high-quality compost, farmers, landscapers, and homeowners can improve soil structure, enhance moisture retention, and support long-term sustainability.

Why Miller Compost Stands Out

What sets us apart isn’t just our process. It is our commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation.
