The Whitby MRF is a Two Stream Recycling Facility which Miller took over operations of in 2012.

Once operations began Miller immediately began upgrades to the system which were part of the Request for Proposal (RFP) process. These upgrades included a residue clean up system designed to help capture missed recyclables and increase diversion, as well as an upgrade to the Compressors to optimize the Optical Sorters.

Over the past 5 years Miller and its dedicated team of employees have provided Durham Region with “Only The Best” service to this contract. Over this time Miller has also completed additional equipment upgrades for Durham Region with the most recent one in 2017. Miller recognized the need to change the design of the Container Line to handle the ever changing Material Composition within the Blue Box program. These continued Blue Box composition changes had resulted significant increases in both Labour and equipment costs as it lead to the implementation of a second shift. This facility upgrade included additional optic sortation, larger glass screens, industrial perforators, air sort and the upgrade of an existing conveyor. Through this facility upgrade Miller was able to increase productivity by a minimum of 35%, it increased the diversion rate while decreasing the residue levels while as well as decreasing the overall labour and equipment costs.
