CSR Shout Outs!
Simcoe CSRs
Even though it is our newest collection contract, we have been receiving absolutely amazing feedback from the residents of Simcoe County. It’s pretty obvious that they appreciate the service we provide. Shout Out! to all of the workers at our Simcoe Location; thank you for carrying on the Miller Tradition of being OnlyTheBest!
Joe Robichaud – Simcoe County CSR
While out on his collection route, Joe stopped to help a struggling senior to get material to curb by walking up the long driveway to assist her.
Zack Snelling – Simcoe County CSR
While out on his collection route, Zack noticed some money and returned it to the thankful (and happy) resident.
Great job Zack, your honesty and integrity is the definition of being “OnlyTheBest”
Ivan Carlisle – Simcoe County CSR
We received this letter from a happy resident in Bradford!
“I just wanted to express to you my gratitude for one of your workers.
April 14th was a very windy day and my bin blew over and the two garbage bags fell out into the ditch. Being older, I was unable to get them out of the deep ditch.
Before someone could come and help me your truck pulled up. The driver got out of the truck, considered for a moment and went into the ditch and tossed the bags into his truck. I called to thank him from the house but he couldn’t hear, I just wanted to acknowledge his kindness”
Shane Reid – Simcoe County CSR
April 13, 2022 we received a very appreciative call from a Simcoe Resident who complemented Shane for providing outstanding service.
James Purser – Halton CSR
“I want to commend your worker on truck #162203.
He consistently stacks our waste containers so neatly and after pickup our street appears extremely tidy. I’ve moved here from Hamilton and your service is a big improvement from what I’m used to. Many kudos and thanks to this employee because he puts a positive light on your company”
– Local Resident Mark Brown
Thank You! From Port Bruce
On February 17, 2022, a number of residents of the community of Port Bruce were forced out of their homes due to the rising waters of the Catfish Creek Watershed. Heavy rainfall and mild temperatures were the cause of the extreme water levels, with many residents saying that this was the worst flooding the community had ever experienced.
April Anderson and Cheryl Duffett wrote the following note to our London Operations Team in appreciation of the work done by our collection crews to help clean the town…
“We want to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire community of Port Bruce for your outstanding and amazing service following the devastating flood on Feb. 17. You truly went above and beyond all expectations as you diligently took away pile after pile of water and mud-soaked items that were once familiar and loved parts of our homes and memories. It meant a lot to us that we didn’t have to look at this and be reminded of all we lost as we walked out our front doors each day.
We appreciate that you still came and collected items after the Township Council voted to discontinue the service. This shows how much character and compassion you have and we truly appreciate it all.”

Portipique Community Build-Up
Nova Scotia
In the Fall of 2021, Miller Waste Systems’ Peter Courtney (Regional Sales Supervisor) was contacted by Jen Herbert who serves on Portipique’s Non-Profit Community Board. The Board was requesting assistance in a community clean-up project that included the tearing down of the old Community Hall to make room for expansion as well as a new playground and park.
Two years ago, The Portipique community was the location of the April 2020 Nova Scotia attacks in which a lone gunman dressed as an RCMP Officer, driving a vehicle mocked up to look like an RCMP cruiser, went on a 13-hour shooting rampage through the rural Community that left 22 innocent people dead.
Peter spoke with John Larche (Regional Manager – East) and Jeff Traver (District Manager – East Coast Operations) and they graciously offered to provide a roll-off bin for the clean-up as a good will gesture. With the help of Tammi Hingley (Truro Dispatch) and Ted McQueen (Route Supervisor Truro-Amherst) they made the arrangements needed to get the bin delivered. Over the next couple of months, the bin was filled by local volunteers and the old Community Hall is now gone. The Portipique Community now has a fresh slate for a fresh start!
Miller Waste Systems provides residential and commercial services in this area and, as we all know, we become connected with the people and communities we serve every day. Being able to assist by offering this service is our way of helping this community to rebuild and heal after this unspeakable tragedy.
Huge thank you to all involved who played their part to provide the Portipique Community with this service.
“I can’t even thank Miller Waste enough for your generosity, thanks to Pete specifically for going to bat for us 🙂 We appreciate it SO very much!!” – Jen Herbert.
Your kind hearts and efforts is the very definition of OnlyTheBest and has not gone unnoticed, Thank you to the East Coast Team!

Live Saving Teamwork
Ottawa ON
Thursday April 7, 2022 started off like any other workday for Evan Aucoin and his coworkers in our Ottawa West yard. However, due to an unfortunate incident, it didn’t end routinely. Around 3:30 that afternoon, Evan picked up a glass tabletop a resident had placed out for collection. As he lifted the table into the truck, the glass broke, badly cutting Evan’s wrist.
Evan approached his partner, Derek Carruthers, and Derek immediately provided Evan with towels to control the bleeding. He also put out a radio call to his supervisor and anyone nearby to provide assistance.
Just around the corner, Gilles Regimbald heard the radio call. Gilles has been a trained first aider for years, and just completed a refresher training course he received from Ottawa Paramedics. Moments after hearing the call, Gilles and his partner arrived on the scene. Derek called EMS while Gilles began caring for Evan. Using the truck’s First Aid Kit, Gilles quickly and expertly applied a tourniquet and bandaged Evan’s injury as best he could until medics arrived.
Gilles quick reaction and skills quite possibly saved Evan’s life. The Ottawa Paramedics at the scene commented on the quality of the first aid interventions. Well done Gilles!
In this industry, one can never know what may happen; this incident shows how valuable it is to have trained, competent and confident first aiders in the workplace. Because of the swift reaction and assistance of Gilles and Derek, Evan has returned to work and is expected to make a full recovery. Well done Team Ottawa!
