MARKHAM, ON – Miller Waste Systems, a leading Canadian waste management company headquartered in Markham, is celebrating a major milestone this summer – 65 years of service.

The company – which celebrated with a party at their Markham office – was founded in 1961 and has expanded from a two-truck operation into one of Canada’s largest privately owned waste management providers, serving more than 16,000 commercial customers and 2.3 residences. Today, the company employs 2,400 people across Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Manitoba, including 500 York Region residents.

“We are extremely happy to celebrate this milestone anniversary in Markham, our home base,” says Joe Johnson, President of Miller Waste.  “Our deep roots in this City reflect our commitment to helping communities thrive with responsible waste collection services and exceptional customer service.”

“Miller Waste is thankful to the local government and Markham-based businesses for their continued trust. Our relationship with the City, and every community in which we operate, is a partnership based on open dialogue, honest communication, and mutual respect.”

Miller Waste remains wholly owned by the founding McArthur and Carrick families, for whom community is unequivocally important.

“Giving back to the community is non-negotiable for our family,” says Blair McArthur, CEO of Miller Waste. “We strongly believe in sharing our success with the communities where we do business.”

Miller Waste carries that commitment forward through community cleanups, Touch-a-Truck events, compost donations to community gardens, holiday gift drives and fundraising initiatives such as the Princess Margaret Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer tournament.

Logan Kanapathi, Member of Provincial Parliament for Markham-Thornhill, also congratulated the company on the milestone. “For decades, Miller Waste has helped keep communities – including here in Markham-Thornhill – clean through reliable and environmentally responsible waste management. With a strong team and a continued commitment to sustainability, Miller Waste is helping protect our environment and support local economies across Canada.”

Looking ahead, Miller Waste continues to invest in resource recovery and environmental sustainability. Most recently, the company was awarded the contract to design and construct a new material recovery facility in Delta, B.C., expanding the company’s presence into Western Canada and supporting the diversion of recyclable materials from landfill.
